Frequently Asked Questions
The federal government has introduced a new dental plan for Canadians who do not already have dental coverage through their employer or any other private providers.
It is intended to provide coverage for Canadian residents who do not have dental benefits and have a household income of less than $90,000 a year.
Examples of services that could be covered under the CDCP when recommended by your dentist include: preventive services, diagnostic services, restorative services, endodontic services, prosthodontic services, periodontal services, and oral surgery services.
Once you have been approved for the plan, the plan administrator will determine what % your coverage will be based on your income. Your coverage will either be fully covered at 100%, or partially covered at 70% or 50%.
In May 2024, an online application portal will be open for seniors 65 and older. If you have a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate or have a child under the age of 18, you will be able to apply online as of June 2024. All remaining eligible Canadians will be able to apply online in 2025.
We will directly bill for this plan on your behalf. There is no need to pay for the full treatment up front.

There are several things that are classified as a dental emergency β with varying degrees of urgency. The most common dental emergency is a toothache. Symptoms that indicate a tooth may be starting to abscess include sensitivity to hot and/or cold with pain that lingers, swelling, pain keeping you awake at night, and pain not resolved with OTC pain killers.
If you have a dental emergency, call our dental office as soon as you can. They can give you the best advice as to what to do.
The best way to avoid dental emergencies is to make sure you take exceptional care of your teeth by brushing and flossing daily and ensuring you see your dentist on a regular basis.
A lose filling means that the tooth is going to need further treatment β keep the tooth as clean as possible, switch to a softer diet so you donβt put too much pressure on the tooth and see our Edmonton dentist to have the tooth restored.
