Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is one of the most common diseases in Canadians. Symptoms include sore, bleeding, receding, swollen, red or purple gums, and persistent bad breath.
Gingivitis is the early stage of periodontal disease, occurring when there is gum irritation and minor bleeding gums during regular brushing and flossing. It is controllable and treatable with thorough home care and routine dental visits.
Plaque is a clear sticky substance that builds on teeth and is removed by brushing and flossing. Plaque that isn't cleaned off hardens into tartar, which must be removed by a dentist or hygienist through scaling.
We offer scaling and root planing. Scaling removes tartar above the gum line, while root planing removes tartar on the roots below the gum line.
A gum graft is a surgical procedure that thickens gums by placing gum from one area of the mouth into another where gum tissue has receded. It may be necessary to protect teeth from damage or for aesthetic purposes.
A gum graft procedure can last anywhere from 1-2 hours, depending on your level of gum recession.
It may take a few weeks for your mouth to fully heal. You should be able to return to normal activities the day after your procedure.
Bone augmentation involves grafting bone or other materials to the needed area to increase bone quantity. The area will take several months to heal and fuse with your existing jaw bone.
If you have lost a tooth and require an implant, your dentist will need to evaluate if there is enough quality bone to perform the procedure. Bone augmentation can increase bone quantity when inadequate.
Botox is a widely recognized brand of neuromodulating agents containing Botulinum Toxin, a purified protein with cosmetic and therapeutic applications. It is injected into facial muscles to prevent them from contracting and help them relax.
Usually, a Botox treatment takes 15-25 minutes and doesn't require anesthesia. A fine needle is used to inject Botox into specific muscles.
Botox treatments generally last 3-5 months, depending on how the individual person metabolizes it.
Juvéderm® is a facial filler composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in your body. It combines with water in the skin to restore lost fullness and smooth lines and wrinkles.
Juvéderm® can last 6 months up to 2 years.
